Today's Project

This month has been flying by so quickly for me... what about you?  I was thankful for this month's sketch challenge to help me think outside the box a bit.  I am loving the new Mixed Florals Bundle and have been creating with it all month (**smile**) keeping me warm and cozy with the snow and ice outside.  Here's the sketch...

AWOW Blog Hop Sketch 108 - February 2025

And this is what it inspired me to create!

Project Details

I started by creating watercolor background on a piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper (cut down to 3-3/4" x 5") with a broad tip Water Painter and Azure Afternoon ink.  The watercolor paper was soaked with several layers of the ink added to create the look I wanted.

Creating pink coneflowers for this project was a must.  While the watercolor was drying, I picked Benji up from the groomer and colored the Mixed Florals coneflowers that were stamped with Crumb Cake ink onto Basic White cardstock.  The stamped image was colored with Stampin' Blends Markers using Light Pumpkin Pie, Light/Dark Crumb Cake and Dark Calypso Coral for the cone floret disks; Light Pretty in Pink and Light Melon Mambo for the downward petals; Light Granny Apple Green and Light Mossy Meadow for the stems and leaves; and Light/Dark Lemon Lolly for the wildflowers.  The colored image was diecut with its coordinating die.

I chose to use a square instead of a circle... the two largest square Stylish Shapes Dies were taped with Post-it Tape to diecut the Crumb Cake cardstock frame.

The detailed Mixed Labels die was used to diecut Basic White cardstock creating the stripes from the sketch.  (TIP:  A used dryer sheet comes in handy when diecutting detailed dies... the little pieces are easily collected on it while releasing the diecut from the die without a fuss.)  The diecuts were adhered along the back of the frame with Tear & Tape Adhesive.  Wrapping them around the back of the watercolor background was a quick and secure way to adhere on Tear & Tape Adhesive strips.  A smaller Basic White cardstock layer adhered to the back before adhering with Multipurpose Liquid Glue to the Crumb Cake card base.

The Unbounded Love sentiment was white heat embossed on Crumb Cake scraps, fussycut and adhered to the cardfront with Mini Glue Dots.

As a finishing touch, a double threaded bow was tied with Linen Thread and adhered with two Mini Glue Dots.

The inside of the card was stamped and colored to compliment the card front.  A Light Balmy Blue Stampin' Blend was used to replicate the Azure Afternoon watercolor along the edge of the stamped image.  The Unbounded Love sentiment was stamped with Crumb Cake ink.  The Basic White Medium Envelope front and flap was stamped and colored to complete the card ensemble.
